Debug bar is a super useful plugin that adds a debug menu on your WordPress admin bar that displays cache, query, memory usage and important helpful debugging information. A must for developers! I like this plugin since I can tell from a single click the total queries, total queried time and memory usage that is absolutely useful for debugging. Additionally, you can also enable PHP Warnings and Notices to make them easier to find when WP_DEBUG is enabled. When
SAVEQUERIES is enabled the mysql queries are tracked and displayed.
To enable these options, add the following code to your
define( 'WP_DEBUG', true ); define( 'SAVEQUERIES', true );
There are numerous other add-ons available to get more insight into, for instance, the registered Post Types, Shortcodes, WP Cron, Language file loading, Actions and Filters and so on. Just search the plugin directory for ‘Debug Bar’.
Query Monitor is the Developer Tools panel for WordPress. It includes some advanced features not available in other debugging plugins, including Ajax and REST API debugging, and the ability to narrow down its output by plugin or theme.
Query Monitor focuses heavily on presenting its information in a useful manner. It adds an admin toolbar menu showing an overview of the current page, with complete data shown in a panel once you select an item.
User Switching plugin can be described as developer best time saver. Ever wondered how to quickly login and logout from your WordPress site in order to view how other viewers see your website? You don’t have to keep logging in and out of your site, you can now use this plugin to switch between different users, saving you a great deal of time.
User Switching plugin allows you to quickly swap between user accounts in WordPress at the click of a button. You’ll be instantly logged out and logged in as your desired user. After installing the widget, there’s no need to enter usernames and passwords again. This is handy for test environments where you regularly log out and in between different accounts, or for administrators who need to switch between multiple accounts. When you install and activate, you will see new menu on the WordPress admin bar called Switch off. With a click on a button you can easily and quickly switch WordPress users.
User Switching plugin is compatible with WordPress, WordPress Multisite, BuddyPress and bbPress. This plugin also work if you two-factor authentication. One exception I’m aware of is Duo Security. If you’re using this plugin, you should install the User Switching for Duo Security add-on plugin which will prevent the two-factor authentication prompt from appearing when you switch between users. Also note that installing the User Switching for Regular Admins plugin is required if you want regular admins on Multi-site to be able to switch accounts. And if you need to switch users directly from the admin toolbar, you'll need a third party add-on plugin for this: Admin Bar User Switching.
Not only useful for WordPress developers, but for all WordPress users as well. The Simple History plugin displays recent changes made within WordPress directly on the dashboard page.
While working and developing a new WordPress website, a lot of changes are made. With Simple History, you get a quick overview of recent changes – such as which plugins have been activated/deactivated.
Further on Simple History shows information on failed user logins, widgets information or new posts and pages.
The log view + it also shows the filter function in use – the log only shows event that are of type post and pages and media (i.e. images & other uploads), and only events intitiated by a specific user.
The Post Quick Diff feature will make it quick and easy for a user of a site to see what updates other users have done to posts and pages.
When users are created or changed you can see details on what have changed.
Events have context with extra details – Each logged event can include useful rich formatted extra information. For example: a plugin install can contain author info and a the url to the plugin, and an uploaded image can contain a thumbnail of the image.
Click on the IP address of an entry to view the location of for example a failed login attempt.
See even more details about a logged event (by clicking on the date and time of the event).
A chart with some quick statistics is available, so you can see the number of events that has been logged each day. A simple way to see any uncommon activity, for example an increased number of logins or similar.
The Monster Widget allows you to check if the widget that you've installed will show correctly on your theme. It consolidates all 13 core widgets into a single widget enabling theme developers to create multiple instances with ease. It has been created to save time during theme development and review by minimizing the steps needed to populate a sidebar with widgets.
The Monster widget is not designed for use in production but for testing purposes. If you. like me, install a lot of add-on widgets for WooCommerce be sure to check out the WooCommerce Monster Widget plugin which does exactly the same thing for WooCommerce.

On certain updates, the WordPress team will deprecate a file, function, or function argument. However, your theme or plugins may still be using these deprecated items, which can cause errors on your site. This Log Deprecated Notices plugin will scan your site and look for any deprecated items. Furthermore, it will notify you if a function is not being used correctly.
This is a plugin for developers. WP_DEBUG is not needed, though its general usage is strongly recommended. Deprecated notices normally exposed by WP_DEBUG will be logged instead. This plugin is great for knowing if the theme or website you are building has the strongest code possible.
Warning! This plugin hasn’t been tested with the latest 3 major releases of WordPress. It may no longer be maintained or supported and may have compatibility issues when used with more recent versions of WordPress. Use it at your own risk!
Up until now the way theme and plugin developers find where to hook into with their add_action() and add_filter() functions is either to search through the WordPress code base, or find find a reference to the hook in the codex.
What Simply Show Hooks does is give you a simpler way to see these hooks by displaying them in-line on the page that you are on. All that’s left to do then is copy the hook you need, and paste it in to your add_action and add_filter functions like this:
add_action( ‘wp_enqueue_scripts’, ‘my_enqueue_scripts_action’ );
add_filter( ‘the_title’, ‘my_the_title_filter’ );
Please note that in odd cases, due to the nature of actions and filters, the plugin may display a hook in place that disrupts the display of your site – in which case we always display the ‘Hide Hooks’ button so you can switch it back off. This won’t disrupt the look of you site to anyone but you so don’t worry.
